Cado Ezechiar
Painting Cado Ezechiar - A Special Miniature in Many Ways
I had the chance to paint up the Cado Ezechiar model. Although originally designed for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar, I’ve based mine on a classic 20x20 mm square base, making it perfectly suitable for battles in the old editions of Warhammer Fantasy. With a simple adapter, it could even stride confidently into games of Warhammer: The Old World.
From the very first look, I knew this sculpt would fit seamlessly into a Vampire Counts army. It has that unmistakable atmosphere of the older models - dark, gothic, and brimming with character - while still offering the crisp detail of modern design.
Painting it was a joy from start to finish. My favorite detail is the cloak, which features a freehand skull pattern painted by my partner. That touch really elevated the miniature and gave it a unique, personal character.
But this project carries a much deeper meaning for us. It was the last miniature we painted in the company of our beloved cat, Cziczu, who was with us for 16 wonderful years. She passed away recently after an illness, crossing the Rainbow Bridge. Cziczu had been our constant companion - present during countless battles and games, always by our side. She even “helped” during painting sessions, suggesting which paints or brushes to use in her own special way. She was an endless source of inspiration, warmth, and the homely atmosphere that makes a hobby truly meaningful.
Now, her place has been taken by two tiny kittens - Zelda and Pixel - whom we recently adopted. They’re still learning their roles as apprentices and hobby assistants (for now, that mostly means chewing brush bristles and investigating modeling tools), but they’re already bringing joy and energy into the studio and our lives.
All in all, Cado Ezechiar is not just another painted miniature on the shelf - for us, it has become a tribute, a memory, and a marker of transition. And on the tabletop, he’ll look right at home among the undead legions of the Vampire Counts, carrying with him both the spirit of the old Warhammer and the memory of a very special friend.
